DENNIS LOLINE III 462 EOT
AT MEDSTEAD VILLAGE FETE IN MEDSTEAD
SATURDAY 13 JULY 2024

This was our first visit to Medstead Fete. Having attended as a member of the general public in 2023 some ADORRS members had been suitably impressed to attend with one of our buses this year, and so we did.

Notable points of positivity included:

  • Very well organised by friendly Medstead team.

  • 462 EOT was given an excellent area on a sturdy green to park on, such that the general public saw this bus almost immediately that they came to the fete.

  • ADORRS used its 'Brand New Banner' for the very first time - see picture. In particular this banner shows that we are 'A Registered Charity'.

  • Many members of the public explored our parked-up bus, some enjoyed visiting our bus a few times. Some parents also bought their children and educated them about Buses of a Bygone era. The children loved it. Excellent for education.

  • The fete also had an array of vintage cars there, which were greatly admired.

  • Excellent catering facilities so that 'TEAM ADORRS' could keep their strength up.

ATTENDANCE AT THE BASINGSTOKE FESTIVAL OF TRANSPORT
SUNDAY 19th MAY 2024

Dennis Loline III 488 KOT Dennis Loline III 488 KOT
AND CONGRATULATIONS TO 488 KOT - 60 YEARS OLD IN 2024!

On her fifth outing this year (which was a very hot day), Dennis Loline III 488 KOT was very well received and admired by the general public, on Sunday 19 May 2024 at the above event.

The quality of turnout of 488 KOT was excellent, this being due to our ADORRS Team having diligently prepared her for this event the day before. She is a tall bus to keep in such beautiful condition.

The ADORRS Sales stand raised more funds for her upkeep.

The Basingstoke Festival of Transport is a wonderful yearly show, and we were very grateful to have been a part of it.

Additional members needed please! - Would you like to join ADORRS to help keep buses like 488 KOT preserved? Donations for upkeep are also greatly appreciated via this website. Thank you.

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 6 MAY 2024

Dennis Loline III 488 KOT

On her second outing this year, Dennis Loline III 488 KOT was presented very well, and received many positive comments. Whilst the Weather was far from kind, the enthusiasm of the general public was not dampened, and we had over 300 passengers in several hours.

The Bus performed well, and we were very proud ADORRS members at this special event.

Thank you to Friends of King Alfred Buses for their enthusiasm in inviting us. The whole day was as always very well organised, and a great tribute to Bus Preservation.

ADORRS is eager for New Members, (no experience necessary), so if you are thinking of joining our happy team, an Application form can be found on this website. We welcome anyone with an interest in Bus Preservation.

On the first outing for quite some time, Dennis Loline III 488 KOT was very well received and admired by the general public on Sunday 14th April 2024 at the above event. Many people remembered their travel on Dennis Loline buses, and commented on how she looked in such lovely condition.

'TEAM ADORRS' represented the group ably, and happily answered a variety of questions about 488 KOT.

ADORRS also took the Sales Stand along which was very successful, raising much needed funds for the upkeep of our vehicles.

As always, we are eager for New Members, so if you are thinking of joining our small but dedicated team, an Application form can be found on this website.

THANK YOU FROM Dennis E and ADORRS

The Society was formed in 1996 to save two 1928 former Aldershot and District Dennis E buses from a field at Four Marks, Hampshire. Since then the society has grown, it has become a limited company and a charity and more buses have been rescued. The fleet now comprises six vehicles dating from the 1920s to the 1960s when public transport was in its heyday.

The Dennis E type vehicles form the backbone of the fleet but all require major restoration work to get them back onto the road. We have had to take a practical approach to these very rare buses. The cost of restoring the two buses found in 1996 in a field, OT 8592 and OT 8898 would cost in the region of £500,000 and this is beyond the Society's means. However the bus found by the River Thames, inside a house has a much better chance of being restored. In 2016 the Society obtained donated funds to enable restoration of this chassis and hopefully this will be DRIVEN out of our barn at Milland. Some time ago we managed to obtain the original registration, OT 8902, so eventually one, or a combination of two of the earlier found bus bodies will be attached to OT 8902. In the 1920's vehicles were made of two parts, chassis and body, unlike the present day construction. The Trustees believe it is better to get one good bus fully restored rather than struggle with three!

Two of the success stories are the two Loline III's, 462 EOT and 488 KOT which have been fully restored and have been playing a prominent part in bus Rally's for several years. To keep these rare double-deck buses running we have had to 'borrow' parts from AAA 508C including the excellent engine and gearbox. It has now come to the extent that 508 has loaned so much that it would cost a huge amount to restore, so it will be kept as a storage bus. 488 has benefitted by having the engine and 5 speed gearbox from 508.

This work is/has been carried out by a small band of volunteers, but we urgently need more support, both to help finance the restorations and to carry out the practical side of the restoration work.
